More About Molly

It comes down to a love for playing pretend. Fantasy. Storytelling.

My love for books put me on the road to becoming an artist, because as I discovered my favorite characters and worlds, I became determined to be part of them. But how?

Writing.

Theatre.

Film.

Puppetry.

Music.

So I started writing. I found opportunities to perform. I learned, and trained. I discovered others who loved playing pretend, too, and I’ve been playing and collaborating with them ever since.

I graduated from the University of San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and English in 2012. I followed this up with the Comprehensive 2 Year Actor Training Program at the Meisner/Chekhov Integrated Training Studio (MCIT) where I studied with master teachers Liz Shipman and Lisa Berger.

I have studied puppet design, fabrication and performance with Basil Twist, TwistedHeart Puppetworks, Animal Cracker Conspiracy, Mindy Donner, Lynne Jennings and Joyce Hutter.

In 2014 I started work on my first full-length play The Singing Bird Will Come. It is an original myth about love, identity, and acceptance performed by actors and puppeteers. It has been performed at the San Diego International Fringe Festival and with the City Heights Puppet Project. I look forward to sharing it with more audiences as it continues to evolve.

I started experimenting with puppetry on film in 2016 when I collaborated with TwistedHeart Puppetworks on our entry for the Jim Henson Company’s Dark Crystal Fan Film Competition. Since then I have made two other puppetry short films, Open If Found and Little Love, which were screened at the Adult Puppet Cabaret and the 1st International Shadow Puppetry Festival Shadows Across the Globe (respectively).

My personal style of visual storytelling is heavily influenced by fairytales, nature, and the dark, whimsical, weird fantasy projects of the 1980s.

Labyrinth! Legend! The Princess Bride! The Dark Crystal! Pee-Wee’s Playhouse!

I am also a huge (and baby I mean HUGE) David Bowie fan.

I was an early childhood educator for sixteen years, which means I am patient, I am gentle, and I am very in-touch with my inner child (she’s a hoot).

I’m currently working on my first novel. Surprise! It’s fantasy.
